About Peter J. Shakula

Peter focuses his practice on the enforcement of patents, trademarks, and copyrights. He has experience in litigating intellectual property disputes in the federal trial and appellate courts, including developing overall case strategy, managing discovery, conducting hearings, and obtaining ex parte injunctions preventing the sale and distribution of infringing products. He has also worked with United States Customs in the seizure of infringing goods.

Peter counsels clients on intellectual property protection, including non-infringement, invalidity, and freedom to operate opinions, as well as licensing of intellectual property rights. Peter also prepares and prosecutes patent, trademark, and copyright applications. Past representations include technology such as bicycles, sewing machines, paper shredders, beverage dispensers, mobile communications systems, interferometers, optical cables, LED lighting, and industrial process controls.

Prior to practicing in the area of intellectual property, Peter was in public service as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the State of Indiana, where he received extensive jury trial experience in major felony prosecutions.
