Steve provides strategic advice on the development, acquisition, maintenance and licensing of patents and related intellectual property for the firm’s chemical and biotechnology clients. He has extensive experience in patent practice, licensing and mergers and acquisitions in the U. S., as well as in Europe, Japan, Canada and Brazil.

Previously, Steve had a distinguished 22-year career at Abbott Laboratories, the last ten of which he served as Vice President, Chief Patent & Trademark Counsel. During his tenure at Abbott, he led the Patent and Trademark Department that supported the research, development, manufacture and marketing of pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, nutritionals and medical products.

He is the former President of Interpat, an organization of chief intellectual property counsel representing major European, Japanese and U.S. research-based pharmaceutical companies. He is currently an Emeritus member of the Association of Chief Patent Counsel and a member of the American Intellectual Property Association. He is also on the Board of Trustees for the Intellectual Property Section of the John Marshall Law School in Chicago and is currently an Advisory Board Member of the Cystic Fibrosis Institute.
