Kate is an associate of the firm and spends most of her time working with clients on the west coast. After relocating to California from D.C. to fulfill an unrelenting personal desire, she began working with several emerging companies (mostly in the medical device industry) and highly successful independent surgeons. In this capacity, Kate has drafted and filed over 40 patent applications in 1.5 years including both U.S. (provisionals / utility) and international (PCT) applications. Kate was also responsible for Freedom to Operate analyses, assignments, review of license arguments, IP clauses in employment contracts, trademark searches and counseling, and international intellectual property strategy. She continues to work with most of these clients.

Kate began her career in Washington, D.C. at an IP boutique law firm where she gained experience prosecuting U.S. patent applications predominantly for Japanese clients. While there she co-authored an article on reexaminations [“Why Wait for Oppositions?” with partner Scott Daniels for IDEA Vol. 47, No. 3 (2007)], assisted with International Trade Commission Sec. 337 investigations, and assisted in a trial in the D.C. District Court.

During law school Kate was the President of the Student Intellectual Property Society, had an externship with the Technology Transfer Office of the College, and was a summer law clerk at the Michigan Court of Appeals in Detroit.

Kate has a working knowledge of Spanish and values the cultural diversity of her clients. She is continually inspired by their drive which makes her more passionate about doing all she can to protect their interests.

Kate is admitted to practice in California (U.S. Ct App. for the 9th Circuit, U.S. Dis. Ct for N. CA, U.S. Dis. Ct for Central CA) and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
